Introduction to BJJ
If you’ve never trained BJJ before (or not for years), and want to learn the basics in a low-pressure environment, this is for you.
This class is designed for adults to learn basic skills before joining the all levels Gi and No Gi classes. We keep the class size on the smaller side to make sure you get all the attention you need to succeed.
The course is run over 10 one-hour sessions.
What should I expect in a class?
This class is designed for complete beginners with no experience in BJJ, grappling or wrestling. The aim of the class is to show you how to move your body and understand basic martial arts concepts.
At the start of each class, we have a quick ‘safety briefing’ to make sure that all students are aware of how to keep themselves and their teammates safe. Safety is emphasised throughout the class to make sure that everyone has a good time, and no one gets hurt.
Classes generally include:
Warm up exercises, based on essential movements needed for jiu jitsu, to help your mobility.
Fundamental body movement techniques, presented as drills and games. These are both solo and with a partner, so you can start getting used to training with other people.
Stretching, cool down, and Q & A time, so you can ask any questions you might have about the concepts in the class (or anything else BJJ related).
Also, you should expect to have fun!
What should I wear and bring with me?
Wear shoes to and from the studio, even if it’s hot. You will train in bare feet, so it’s best to keep them clean for everyone’s comfort. We suggest you bring slides or thongs for wearing in the bathroom.
If you’re new to training, wear a t-shirt and shorts, trackpants, or leggings. Clothes should have minimal pockets, zippers, etc so they don’t catch on other participants.
We also suggest you bring a water bottle; we also have water and cups in the studio.
