BJJ Fundamentals
Our BJJ Fundamentals adult class is best for inexperienced students, and those who want to master the fundamentals in a low-pressure environment.
This class will help you to fill those gaps in your knowledge, as well as to get a great foundation of BJJ techniques, submissions, and escapes.
These classes are 90 minutes long, so you will have plenty of time to work on your arm bars, triangles, and chokes (even shrimping, we won’t judge!).
What should I expect in a class?
This class is designed for beginners with a little experience in BJJ, grappling or wrestling. We recommend this class once you have completed the Introduction to BJJ classes. It is also great for any students who want to brush up on techniques.
Classes generally include:
Stretching and/or yoga techniques, designed to help your body be ready for jiu jitsu
Warm up games to help you practice essential BJJ movements
Learn new skills by taking part in constraint-based learning – this helps you to explore and discover by problem-solving, not just repetition
Stretching, cool down, and Q & A time, so you can ask any questions you might have about the concepts in the class (or anything else BJJ related)
What should I wear and bring with me?
Wear shoes to and from the studio, even if it’s hot. You will train in bare feet, so it’s best to keep them clean for everyone’s comfort. We suggest you bring slides or thongs for wearing in the bathroom.
If you’re new to training, wear a t-shirt and shorts, trackpants, or leggings. Clothes should have minimal pockets, zippers, etc so they don’t catch on other participants.
When you’re ready, we recommend you wear a rash guard and spats/grappling shorts to classes. You are also welcome to wear a Gi if you prefer. Rash guards, grappling shorts, and Gis are available from the studio, but you can also source your own online.
We also suggest you bring a water bottle; we also have water and cups in the studio.
