Our Coaches

Trent has been on his Jiu Jitsu journey since 2008, and it's safe to say it's become one of the biggest parts of his life. He earned his black belt in 2017 and has competed at every belt level, from local competitions right through to international events, so he knows firsthand what it feels like to be nervous on the mats, whether you're a complete beginner or chasing a podium finish.

What Trent loves most, though, is teaching. It doesn't matter if you've never tied a gi belt in your life or you've been training for years, everyone is welcome at Destination Jiu Jitsu. His goal is simple: help you become the best version of yourself on the mats, and carry that same positive energy into everything you do off them.

Before running the academy, Trent spent several years working as a Police Officer, which gave him a real-world grounding in self-defence, conflict resolution, and staying calm under pressure, things he genuinely weaves into how he coaches.

Trent's commitment to his students goes beyond the mats. He holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a Communications degree from the University of Notre Dame Australia, and is currently furthering his coaching education with a Graduate Certificate in Sports Coaching at the University of Queensland. He has a current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance, and First Aid Certificate. Outside the gym, he also volunteers teaching primary ethics at a local school, because learning doesn't stop on the mats!

Trent is always looking to grow as a coach, and everything he learns goes straight back into making your experience at Destination Jiu Jitsu better.
