Kids BJJ
Kids jiu jitsu is aimed at younger children, aged between 5 and 10 (primary school age).
The classes run for 45 minutes.
Students in our kids classes will learn important skills in a fun environment. Our classes will help your child develop coordination, motor skills and balance while learning basic jiu jitsu techniques. We make learning jiu jitsu fun with games that help to unlock your child’s potential.
At the start of each class, we have a quick ‘safety briefing’ to make sure that all students are aware of how to keep themselves and their teammates safe. Safety is emphasised throughout the class to make sure that everyone has a good time, and no one gets hurt.
Classes generally include:
Warm up exercises, based on essential movements needed for jiu jitsu.
Fundamental techniques presented in a game-based format, to help kids learn instinctively.
A game using jiu jitsu techniques, closely monitored by coaches for safety.
What should I expect in a class?
What should I wear and bring with me?
Wear shoes to and from the studio, even if it’s hot. You will train in bare feet, so it’s best to keep them clean for everyone’s comfort. We suggest you bring slides or thongs for wearing in the bathroom.
If you’re new to training, wear a t-shirt and shorts, trackpants, or leggings. Clothes should have minimal pockets, zippers, etc.
When you’re ready, wear a Gi to classes. Gis are available from the studio, but you can also source your own online.
We also suggest you bring a water bottle; we also have filtered water and cups in the studio.
Whatever their goals, students in our kids’ classes will learn practical skills in a supportive environment. We use a combination of drills, games, and controlled sparring to help your child practice their jiu jitsu. Everything we teach your kids aims to improve their resilience, focus and discipline, which help them in all areas of life.
